Brasilia |
A square that represents center of power of Brazilian democracy. It is situated on Eixo Monumental (Monumental Axis Avenue) in Brasilia, the capital
city of the country. It is surrounded by the National Congress Building, that represents the power of the people (Legislative Power), the Planalto Palace, where
the president works (Executive Power) and the Supreme Court representing the law (Judiciary Power). On the back, at a walking distance, you can visit the Pantheon
of the Nation for free. At the square, you will also find, a pigeon housing structure which was commissioned by the wife of former President João Goulart, a small wall holding a large size
sculpture of the head of former President Juscelino Kubitschek and the nationally famous sculpture "Os Dois Guerreiros" (The Two Warriors) better known as "Os Candangos". Candango
is how the people who built Brasilia were called.
TIP: You can go on a free guided visit inside the three buildings. They take about an hour each. Check for visiting days. Prefer weekends so that you can easily
park nearby.
